Brief history and Key facts

Euromillions is currently one of the most popular lotteries in Europe involving nine participating countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

  • EuroMillions was launched on February 7, 2004, initially with 50 Ball Numbers and 9 Lucky Stars, 1 weekly draw on Friday and the first draw took place on February 13, with the following participating countries: United Kingdom, France and Spain.
  • In October 2004, EuroMillions expanded to six more countries: Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland.
  • On May 10, 2011, EuroMillions introduced a second weekly draw on Tuesdays, in addition to the usual draw that already took place on Fridays. On the same date, the number of Lucky Stars was also increased from 9 to 11, leaving it with 50 Ball Numbers and 11 Lucky Stars.
  • On September 27, 2016, EuroMillions again increased the number of Lucky Stars from 11 to 12, remaining since then with 50 Ball Numbers and 12 Lucky Stars to this day.
  • The main goal in Euromillions is to match the 5 Ball Numbers and the 2 Lucky Stars to get the 1st Prize.
